Italy was the second country to host the World Cup twice. Costa Rica, Ireland, and UAE qualified first time. This world cup was also a comeback tournament for USA after the gap of 40-years. The top two teams and four best third place finishers from the six groups advanced to the knockout stage, which eliminated the teams until a winner was crowned. In total, 52 games were played. The 1990 World Cup is highly considered one of the poorest World Cups ever, the goals per game is extraordinary low with just 2.21 goals per match. In spite of low scoring goals this world cup stands as one of the most watched events in television history, at around 26.69 billion watched this World Cup. The Opening Match of FIFA World Cup’s is the most unforgettable upsets, with Cameroon beating Argentina at a brilliantly revamped San Siro. The final between West Germany and Argentina was bad-tempered Final in the history of the World Cup. Argentina were so defensive in the final, and wanted to try their luck in penalty shoots, but they couldn’t do that. Final match was won by Germany, who beat Argentina 1 -- 0 to win the World Cup for the third time. The only goal in the final was scored by Germany in the 85th minute when Mexican referee Edgardo Codesal awarded a penalty to Germany, after a foul on Rudi Völler by Roberto Sensini. Andreas Brehme converted the goal and crowned 1990 final to Germany. Italy beat England 2–1 to finish third after both teams lost semi-finals in penalty shootouts. 1990 Football Venues •

This was the last World Cup of Romário. The 1994 World Cup final was perhaps least interesting game of the whole tournament. Both sides were very careful throughout their previous matches. In the beginning of the tournament Brazilians were not at their best it. The Final was played in front of 94,000 fans at the Pasadena Rose Bowl but it was very sluggish game, because both teams are not ready to take any risk and scared of losing the match. This was the first world cup which decided on penalty shootout in the attendance of 94,000 fans and that was largest crowd since then 1950. Brazil becomes 4th nation to grab the fourth world cup titles. They beat Italy 3-2 in a penalty shootout after the game ended 0-0 at extra time.
