Shahid Afridi announced his retirement from Test cricket

Posted by Jubeir On July - 16 - 2010

Pakistan Shahid Khan Afridi has decided to quit Test Cricket after Leeds Test. Afridi has revealed his decision in the post match press conference at Lord’s. My Test match temperament does not suit with the longest form of Test match cricket. I was not very devoted to play Test cricket but the board asked me to see how I felt, and I think Pakistan needs a proper batsman or bowler in the side that will balance the combination, I will not play Test cricket after Leeds match. Afridi had been criticized for his carefree first inning shot, he made 31 in quick time and being caught to attempting the another big shot. He had just returned to Test Cricket after a four year absence to take the captaincy.  Pakistan opening batsman Salman Butt will likely to replace Afridi and PCB will makes a final decision.  It was Australia 13th straight Test wins over Pakistan and next Test starts on coming Wednesday at Headingley that would be Afridi last Test match.

Pakistan manager Yawar Saeed told, Afridi is not feeling comfortable with his injury and has told us that next Test match will be his last one. Afridi participation at Headingley will depend on his fitness test for a side strain. I am struggling through my injury in Asia Cup, but I admit I can’t carry it in Test cricket, where you need to be 100% full fitness. I am enjoying ODI’s and Twenty20 cricket so I just want to shift my focus on that formats rather than to play Test, that is very difficult with injury, so then I decide to leave the Test Cricket. I did not ask anyone by force to give me the captaincy, nor will I by force captain the team. If I am good I will show it through my performance. If I am not good I will say khuda hafiz.
