Hunza Lake is seeping out and water spill out smoothly on Saturday. The lake is formed by landslide in North Pakistan in Jan 2010. Iran and Pakistan signed a gas supply agreement for through a pipeline which estimated project cost is about $7.5 billion. This gas project will be completed in 2014, and cost for Pakistan part project is expected around $1.65 billion. Through this agreement Pakistan will import 750 million cubic feet a day with a provision to increase it to one billion cubic feet a day, under the gas and sale purchase agreement. Pakistan petroleum minister Syed Navid Qamar told reporters the length of gas project pipeline is 560 miles, and originally it was planned between Iran, Pakistan and India but later on India withdrew last year. Iran has assured Pakistan to complete the project within 2 to 3 years.
The agreement is for a period of 25 years, and will be extendable for another five years. The magnitude of imported gas will be about 20% of current Pakistan gas production. This gas will be supplied to power sector to produce the estimated 5,000 megawatts of electricity. The constructions of pipeline project definitely will create lot of job opportunities, vocational training and developed outskirts areas of Sindh and Balochistan.
